BLACK COPPER
MARANS
BCMs @ Cross B
We brought BCMs to the farm in 2022 from a local lady in Bixby, OK @ Black Copper Farms. She has a great operation, so if your looking for birds I would recommend her. We have a small flock of BCMs and will continue to have a small flock of them. We brought them in to have a dark egg layer, and while I do like the personalities of my flock, we are focusing on a more rare breed, that needs more attention. We thought about dispersing this flock entirely, but I really do enjoy the ladies that I have, so in 2024, we picked a few grow outs that I believe will improve our flock and have our Cock we used to sire this year's offspring. These ladies will be placed in our egg laying flock, for a colorful egg basket for eating egg customers. And at some point in 2025 we will take these ladies and breed them.

Marsbars & On
Trying to Expand Your Egg Basket
There are particular crosses of different breeds that have specific names. The Marsbar is one of those crosses. The Marsbar is made by taking a Black Copper Marans and a Legbar and breeding them together, which will produce an olive egg in the first generation. WE achieve this by using a Black Copper Marans Cock over a Cream Legbar Hen, this specific combination allows the first generation to be sex linked as well, so we can sex at hatch. These birds are ADORABLE! They are black and almost always have a beautiful crest on their head. To get more colors of the rainbow of egg color after this first generation and using the Marsbar, it is no longer sex linked, so they are straight run after that. Make sure you check out the Olive Egger page to learn pricing and availability of these lovely ladies.
